Mark your calendars for September 29-October 1. That weekend will be CUMC’s annual Global Impact Celebration (GIC). For those of you who are familiar with GIC, it is an incredible weekend where our purpose is twofold: First, we bring in ALL of our missionaries and missions organizations that we partner with and bless them with a great three and a half days of encouragement and good times. Second, the weekend is the apex of a full week of activities and events intended to heighten the awareness of local and global missions.
Our church has come a long ways over the past decade with respect to missions. During this year alone, more than 15 missions trips all over the world will be led and participated in by our people; we will give close to $200,000 to missionaries and missions partners; and thousands of man (and woman) hours will be given to serve people all throughout the Chapin, Columbia and Midlands areas. We are all about missions. You might ask, “why the emphasis?”
Because people still need to hear the gospel truth that Jesus loves them, died for them, and desires to be in relationship with them. Because there are lost people who need to be found. Because, as we learned this past Sunday from Pastor Jody, “the love of Christ compels us…” Those are just a few of the reasons why.
This year, our special guest will be Todd Phillips, author of “Get Uncomfortable” and founder of “The Last Well”, whose mission is: TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER TO THE ENTIRE NATION OF LIBERIA AND OFFER THE GOSPEL TO EVERY PERSON WE SERVE BY 2020. He will bring an inspiring and convicting message to the people of Chapin UMC.
Mark your calendars and plan to participate in this year’s GIC. You won’t regret it!
